Eggs, a versatile dish in the Indian kitchen, have taken a new look in a recent viral video featuring a street vendor from Patna. The video, which is being widely circulated on the internet, shows the seller’s specific method of preparing the product, which adds a unique twist to what they call “egg pouches”. Scroll down to know more about it.
In the footage, the seller uses a specially designed vessel equipped with seven semi-circular molds, strategically placed over a bed of burning coals. Methodically, he adds oil, green chillies, a pinch of turmeric and salt to each of the seven compartments. With precision, he mixes the ingredients using a stick before gently pouring two eggs into each section. Then finely chopped onion, fresh coriander and various spices are added to it. The vendor ensures to cook the pouch thoroughly by turning it until both sides are cooked properly before transferring the pouch to the bowl.

This interesting culinary creation has quickly gained popularity and has been viewed more than 13 million times since it was posted just three days ago. Online commentators have compared it to “takoyaki”, a Japanese dish that resembles small, round dumplings made with egg-based batter. One comment jokingly said, “Takoyaki no no egg pouch,” while others highlighted the variations in the preparation process, with one user saying, “Such takoyaki is also made in Japan but the process is a little different.”
The video sparked nostalgia for some, with one commenter recalling eating similar dishes during childhood winters. Others engaged in light banter, with one sarcastic remark being, “Masala kaam hogeya. Thora sa aur dedo” (“The spices turned out to be too little. Add some more.”). Users also pointed out similarities with regular omelettes and South Indian appe, leading to discussions on different egg-based preparations.
